Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho look set to return to the England squad for the first time in almost a year.
Both made a few appearances at the Euros last year but failed to impress at Manchester United the following season, losing their place in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
Things have gone much better for both at club level this season, with Erik ten Hag including them in his first choice starting XI and getting the best out of them so far. Sancho has two goals in six games and Rashford has three as well as two assists.
Southgate et al. meanwhile, they have struggled of late, winning none of their four games in the last international break, losing twice to Hungary, the second of which was a humiliating 4-0 thrashing.
With all of the above in mind, the Daily Mail reports that the Manchester United duo are set to return to the Three Lions line-up for the upcoming Nations League meetings with Italy and Germany.
As for who he will replace, West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen looks the most likely player to drop out given his relatively poor start to the season, with the winger failing to score a goal or assist in his opening six Premier League games.
While there may not be matches, it is extremely important who is in the squad as it is the final international break before Southgate decides who to take to Qatar.
With only a week to work with the players before the tournament begins, it’s unlikely he’ll call up players he hasn’t had a chance to work with in the upcoming break and see them up close.
