Some of the world’s biggest clubs are looking at prying away Enzo Fernandez from Benfica just months after he arrived on a five-year deal.
Barcelona, Liverpool, and Chelsea are reportedly all interested in 21-year-old Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
Enzo Fernandez joined Benfica from River Plate just four months ago in June for a fee of €10 million and immediately took the Primeira Liga by storm, with the league naming him player of the month for August.
Since then, he has helped Benfica to an unbeaten record in both the league (8W 1D) and the Champions League (2W 2D), playing in every game, and his performances in back-to-back draws against Paris Saint-Germain seem to have convinced some of the world’s best clubs he has level.
According to Sport’s report, Barcelona had the chance to sign Fernandez for €10m but decided against it, allowing Benfica to swoop and he is now said to be worth in excess of €50m.
This number could also continue to grow. Fernandez, who made his senior debut for Argentina in September, could play a significant role in his country’s World Cup campaign as he enters the tournament on a 35-match unbeaten run.
The report claims that Barcelona will face opposition from Premier League giants Liverpool and Chelsea, and while there is no indication that Benfica are willing to let Fernandez sign a five-year deal six months out, the club, who specialize in turning a profit in a transfer, the market could face an offer it can’t refuse.
