Leroy Sane scored twice in an emphatic 5-0 win against Viktoria Plzen as Bayern Munich made it a record 31 UEFA Champions League group games without defeat.
Reigning Czech champions Viktoria are halfway through Group C without a point and found themselves three goals down after 21 minutes at the Allianz Arena.
Serge Gnabry and Sadio Mane scored after Sane opened the scoring in Tuesday’s game as Bayern cruised to a third win in three in this year’s competition.
Sane’s second was quickly followed by a strike from substitute Eric Choupo-Moting, with Bayern settling for five goals ahead of their big Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern were missing Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich, who tested positive for COVID-19, but took the lead seven minutes from time thanks to Sane’s powerful 18-yard strike.
Deployed across the middle of Bayern’s attack, Gnabry struck six minutes later with a clinical finish after being played in by Leon Goretzka at the end of a counter-attack.
Some poor Pilsen defending allowed Mane to come through and score the third goal for Bayern, who had Jamal Musiala’s goal ruled out for offside before half-time.
Sane doubled his tally after latching on to Mane’s pass with a wonderful first touch to fire past Mariano Tvrdona in what proved to be his last act of purpose before being substituted.
It was left to Choupo-Moting to round off the score before the hour mark with a shot that went wide of the post after another pinpoint pass from Goretzka.
