Goal machine Erling Haaland continued his stunning form with two more against Copenhagen as Manchester City beat the Danes 5-0 on Wednesday.
Erling Haaland added two more goals to his ever-increasing season total as Manchester City enjoyed a simple 5-0 win against Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League.
Haaland’s first-half brace was followed by a Davit Khocholav own goal, a Riyad Mahrez penalty and a Julian Alvarez tap-in as Pep Guardiola’s side eased to victory at the Etihad Stadium.
The former Borussia Dortmund star’s hat-trick in Sunday’s derby win over Manchester United took his tally to 19 goals in 12 games in all competitions.
City have a 100% record in Group G after three matches and need just two points to seal their place in the last 16.
To no one’s surprise, Haaland opened the scoring within seven minutes, right-footing home Joao Cancelo.
But for former Liverpool academy keeper Kamil Grabara’s impressive strike, it could have been a lot worse for Copenhagen in the first half, although his save from Sergio Gomez’s shot just after half an hour saw Haaland tip in City’s second.
It was three before the break after Gomez’s shot from the edge of the box was deflected twice, the second deflected off Khocholava into the net.
Haaland was subbed off at half-time, which may have upset him enough considering he would have been in with a chance of another hat-trick when City were awarded an early penalty for Mark Stamenic’s foul on Aymeric Laporte.
It was Mahrez’s left foot, not Haaland’s, that sent Grabara the wrong way from the spot.
Guardiola gave youth a chance as City cruised into second gear, with Alvarez on hand to make it five after Jack Grealish’s neat drive ended with Mahrez setting up a simple finish for the striker.
