Richarlison was emotional over potentially missing the World Cup with a calf injury, but Antonio Conte says he will be available for Brazil.
Antonio Conte allayed fears of Richarlison missing the World Cup, but confirmed he will not be available for Tottenham’s game with Manchester United on Wednesday.
Richarlison suffered a calf injury in Spurs’ 2-0 win over his former team Everton and was withdrawn in the 52nd minute before being seen on crutches later, sparking fears he could face a race against time to be fit for Brazil’s World Cup opener against. Serbia November 24.
In a tearful post-match interview, Richarlison told ESPN Brazil: “It’s a bit hard to say because it’s close to making my dream come true.”
But when asked about Richarlison, who could miss the World Cup, Conte had an upbeat message.
“Richarlison’s injury, he [does] a scan and then we’ll see how long he has to recover,” Conte told reporters. “But he’s certainly not available against United.
“I can confirm that the player is definitely not at risk of not playing in the World Cup.”
Conte was unsure whether Richarlison’s team-mate Dejan Kulusevski would be fit for Wednesday’s game at Old Trafford after the Sweden international missed the Everton game with a hamstring injury.
“Kulusevski is working, we’ll see,” added Conte. “We have to go day by day with him.
“The medical department is working hard to try and get him back, but we don’t know about the game against United.”
