Benjamin Pavard and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting got on the scoresheet as Bayern Munich clinched a deserved Champions League win against Inter.
Bayern Munich finished their UEFA Champions League group-stage campaign with a 100 per cent record as Benjamin Pavard and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored in a 2-0 win over Inter on Tuesday.
With Bayern and Inter already guaranteed first and second place in Group C, the hosts were the more coherent of the two much-changed sides at the Allianz Arena.
After a decent start from Inter, Pavard met Joshua Kimmich’s pass to put the hosts in front before Choupo-Moting added some gloss after the break with a brilliant long-range strike.
The result saw Julian Nagelsmann’s men win all six of their Champions League group games in successive seasons and finish eight points ahead of Inter to demonstrate their credentials as one of Europe’s top title contenders.
Inter were controversially denied a penalty in the ninth minute when Sadio Mane appeared to block Nicol Barella’s shot with both arms, and then should have taken the lead when Lautaro Martinez stretched to fire from just three yards.
Bayern punished Inter for that mistake after 32 minutes when Pavard escaped the attention of Martinez and nodded Kimmich’s corner into the bottom right corner.
Andre Onana turned home Kingsley Coman’s effort as half-time approached, before an offside flag denied the Nerazzurri as Francesco Acerbi headed home a free-kick from the left wing after the restart.
Bayern were more in control in the second half but saw Mane hook in from a decent position as he looked for a second goal.
The hosts were in their two-goal mode in spectacular fashion with 18 minutes remaining as Choupo-Moting was given space to turn before curling a right-footed shot into the top-left corner to end any hopes of an Inter comeback.
