Manchester City missed the chance to go top of the Premier League as Ivan Toney helped Brentford to an incredible win at the Etihad Stadium.
Ivan Toney responded to his failure to make England’s World Cup squad by firing Brentford to a stunning 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, preventing the champions from going top of the Premier League.
Brentford went ahead in the 16th minute when Toney nodded in for Ederson, but City equalized with Phil Foden’s brilliant half-volley after he had fired past the visitors.
However, Pep Guardiola’s men struggled to dismantle the stubborn Bees in a stop-start second half and Toney capped a fine Brentford break by tapping home a dramatic winner in the eighth minute of stoppage time.
The result saw City exit the World Cup in frustrating fashion, leaving them two points behind leaders Arsenal ahead of the Gunners’ trip to Wolves later on Saturday.
