Neymar and PSG are preparing for the Ligue 1 clash this Sunday against Auxerre, which will be the last match before the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The Brazilian will be one of the big stars of the event and enters it in top form. He is the leader of the Brazilian national team and hopes to bring home the trophy for his country.

He has become the star that PSG so desperately wanted this season, with a handful of goals and assists making him crucial for the Qatari club.

At 30, Neymar looks more like a player who enjoyed football so much in Barcelona.

However, in an interview with Brazilian newspaper ‘O Globo’, Neymar does not believe this is his best season.

“I started the season well, but all my seasons at PSG have been good if you look at the numbers. The difference is that in the last few seasons I had serious injuries and I was out for a long time.” which I regret,” he said.

In Brazil, the most notable aspect of this interview is that he says he could play his last World Cup in Qatar.

“I’m going to play like it’s my last. Let’s play every game like it’s the last because we don’t know tomorrow. I can’t guarantee that I’ll play another World Cup, I honestly don’t know,” he said.

Apart from winning the trophy, Neymar’s next challenge in Qatar will be to surpass Pelé. According to FIFA data, Neymar is three goals away from surpassing Pelé as the top scorer in the history of the Brazilian national team. While Neymar has 75 goals, Pelé has 77.

“Pele is football. Pele is practically everything for our country. The respect and admiration I have for him is huge,” Neymar said.

Neymar’s aim beyond the World Cup

Of course, in Neymar’s mind is winning the trophy with the Brazilian national team. And, for sure, after the World Cup, he has the challenge of winning his first Champions League with PSG. That could bring him closer to winning his first Ballon d’Or, something he has never achieved in his career. But in this interview in O Globo, a deeper Neymar is seen.

“I like to play football, I like to win. I like to be better than I am every day. I like to help my teammates, that’s the main thing,” he said.

“I hope my name will be engraved in football history. If not in football, then in someone’s life.”

Glory awaits a Neymar who dreams of continuing to enjoy football, both with the Brazil national team and with PSG. Football will surely be grateful.
