Sadio Mane was forced off with an apparent injury just 20 minutes into Bayern Munich’s thumping 6-1 win over Werder Bremen and, more importantly, less than two weeks before the start of the FIFA World Cup.
The former Liverpool man was key to Senegal’s qualification for the tournament in Qatar – the third time the nation has ever qualified for the World Cup – scoring the decisive penalty against Egypt.
Mane was also the star of a triumphant 2021 African Cup of Nations campaign, scoring three goals to lift the trophy as Senegal captain.
As such, the striker’s early substitution on Tuesday night would have put quite a few hearts in his mouth in his native country.
However, according to Bild, the injury is not said to be serious – more of a “pinched nerve” – and Mane should be fit and ready for the World Cup.
The Senegalese star isn’t the only high-profile player to suffer some injury in the grueling run-up to the Qatar tournament, with Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante, Jesus Corona, Reece James and Ben Chilwell all fair. several other players met a similar fate.
