Brazil begin their World Cup campaign on Thursday against Serbia, where Rodrygo will be aiming to make an impact on the world stage.

Rodrygo is confident he can deliver for Brazil at the World Cup as he looks to bring an end to 20 years of “suffering”.

The South American giants open their campaign against Serbia on Thursday and are among the favorites in Qatar as they look to end two decades of dominance by the European nations.

Brazil triumphed in 2002 and have since been knocked out in the quarter-finals in three of the last four tournaments, while Germany beat them 7-1 in the semi-finals on home soil in 2014.

At 21, Rodrygo is too young to remember the five-time winners’ last triumph, but he has experienced his fair share of pain as a fan, focusing on his Qatar stint after Brazil’s defeat by Belgium four years ago.

“Man, we suffered for 20 years. I cried when we lost in 2006,” he wrote in the Player’s Tribune.

“I was in Osaka in 2010 and I saw people painting the streets green and yellow. Nobody was working. School? Forget it. It’s not like I missed school. There was no school. Even the teachers ran away.”

“I watched it with my dad in Minas Gerais in 2014. I prefer not to talk about it. I won’t even say the result.
