Tottenham boosted their top-four prospects with a fine 4-0 win at Crystal Palace, which saw Harry Kane star.
Harry Kane moved within two goals of tying Jimmie Greaves’ all-time record for Tottenham as his second-half doubled inspired them to a 4-0 win at Crystal Palace.
Spurs continued their disappointing Premier League campaign, coming from behind to draw 2-2 at Brentford before losing 2-0 at home to Aston Villa.
A lackluster first half looked set to be another underwhelming game for Tottenham, but Kane lifted them back to winning ways in style.
His build-up to his 300th top-flight appearance took him to 264 goals for the club and within striking distance of Greaves (266) before Matt Doherty and Son Heung-min made their mark as Tottenham moved two points clear of the top four.
Spurs found themselves under pressure for much of the first half and were grateful for Hugo Lloris’ smart stop from Jordan Ayew following a neat one-two between Wilfried Zaha and Eberechi Eze.
Lloris was almost caught out by Joachim Andersen’s long-range effort but it was the Palace goal that was beaten 155 seconds after the restart.
England captain Kane could hardly have wished for an easier finish, his task of nodding to the far post was greatly facilitated by Ivan Perisic’s superb cross from the right wing.
Kane doubled his tally less than five minutes later when he collected Bryan Gil’s whipped low ball and fired past Vicente Guaita into the bottom left corner.
The points were secured with a first goal of the season for Doherty, whose close-range shot had too much power for Guaita after good work from Kane and Son.
Son had the final say, winning a challenge with Marco Guehi to latch onto Kane’s lifted ball and fire home his first league goal since a hat-trick against Leicester City in September.
