Thomas Muller came on as a late substitute against RB Leipzig, but Julian Nagelsmann says there is no issue with the Bayern Munich forward.
Julian Nagelsmann dismissed any suggestion that Thomas Muller’s omission against RB Leipzig hints that the forward’s Bayern Munich future is uncertain.
Muller came on in the 83rd minute as Bayern drew 1-1 with Leipzig on Friday.
The 33-year-old has struggled with injuries this season and has played just nine Bundesliga games.
Muller also failed to spark at the World Cup as Germany were eliminated in the group stage.
However, Nagelsmann says that the media made too much of Muller as a substitute.
“With Thomas, it’s a bigger issue in public than for us,” he told reporters before Tuesday’s clash with Kolín.
“When you’ve been injured for so long, you’re always demanding [for your position].
“Thomas also wants the competition. He has an excellent character, but I haven’t decided if he will play.”
Muller was unable to get Bayern over the line against Leipzig, with the champions struggling to create many chances in the second half at the Red Bull Arena.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting put them in front late in the first half and scored Bayern’s 50th Bundesliga goal of the campaign before Marcel Halstenberg equalised, but Nagelsmann wants more intensity in attack.
He said: “We didn’t set up optimally, it was too slow. At times we had good actions after winning the ball but we made bad decisions.
“I also forewarned the team about Leipzig’s strength in transition… There were one or two less than ideal situations on both sides.
Cologne, on the other hand, went into Tuesday’s game beating Werder Bremen 7-1.
“I think seven goals mean something more to Cologne than to us,” Nagelsmann said. “They do it very well, they are active and good at counter-pressing.
“[Coach] Steffen Baumgart does that very well. They always play with an open mind, very offensively. We have to be aggressive.”
