Barcelona’s hopes of bringing Lionel Messi back to Camp Nou are diminishing with each passing day as Paris Saint-Germain look to secure the Argentine’s future by extending his contract.
According to MARCA, PSG intend to renew his contract, which expires at the end of the season.
The player’s father Jorge Messi has already agreed to renew his contract at the Parc des Princes and the Ligue 1 champions seem confident the player will continue at the club.
PSG have prepared a market offer for a contract they consider too good to refuse. The club is ready to go all out when it comes to the salary offered to Messi, which is currently somewhere around €30 million.
PSG’s contract offer to Messi will bring huge benefits to the player, apart from the direct salary offered by the club.
The Argentine feels comfortable at PSG and has settled in very well at the Parc des Princes. His family is also happy with their life in Paris and there is a clear intention to continue in the French capital for at least another year.
Paris Saint-Germain’s desire to offer Messi a fortune comes amid increased economic growth for the club following the arrival of the former Barcelona star.
Since Messi joined them in 2021, the club has seen a whopping revenue of around €700 million.
Additionally, there has been a 30-40% increase in T-shirt sales, with more than a million units already sold. The club also earned somewhere around €75 million through deals from Nike.
With these things in mind, PSG are determined to avoid a scenario where Messi joins an MLS team or returns to Barcelona. The legend, meanwhile, will attempt to return to the pitch for the first time on Wednesday after leading Argentina to the World Cup title last month.
