Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he ‘doesn’t care about the Premier League and Carabao Cup’ after Saturday’s late 2-1 loss to Manchester United.

Jack Grealish came off the bench to give City the lead at Old Trafford. But Bruno Fernandes’ controversial equaliser, in which Marcus Rashford was offside when he received an initial forward pass on the move from Casemiro, fired up the home crowd and the in-form England striker iced the game with less than 10 minutes remaining.

City are now on a losing streak after being surprisingly knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Southampton in midweek. They are also five points behind Arsenal in the Premier League table, with the Gunners having played a game less.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Guardiola praised his team’s performance at United before furiously insisting he “doesn’t care” about winning the Premier League or the Carabao Cup.

“We played really well, our levels against them, they were an incredible threat, incredible counter-attacks. But congratulations to the team, it’s a pride to come here and play with this personality, they run behind us and expect one action and punish us.” in transitions,” began Guardiola.

“I don’t care about the Premier League and the Carabao Cup. We can’t win. We’ve won a lot of them. That’s not the problem. The problem is that we’re performing like we’ve done. We’re always focused on that. So, the Carabao Cup, we’re out. It doesn’t matter. We perform, how we perform, we are who we are. We performed today. And if we win, we win at another club.”

Guardiola said of Fernandes’ controversial equaliser: “Rashford was offside, Bruno Fernandes wasn’t. Whether Rashford is distracting our goalkeeper and our centre-backs, I don’t know, rules are rules.”

“Our second half was really good, but obviously in this stadium you have to keep it going. We missed a bit of our threat up front, our players up front, we were a bit disconnected. But it’s not useless when they go man- Their full-backs are close to ours wingers. But yeah, I think we played a fantastic game.”
