Cristiano Ronaldo made his long-awaited Al Nassr debut on Sunday in a 1-0 win at home to Al-Ettifaq.
The 37-year-old made his Saudi Arabian football debut last week in the Pro League XI against Lionel Messi’s Paris Saint-Germain. Ronaldo scored twice as the French champions ran out 5-4 winners.
His first game for Al Nassr came a few days later at a sold-out Mrsool Park against mid-table Al-Ettifaq. Brazilian forward Anderson Talisca scored the only goal of the game just after half an hour.
However, Ronaldo’s debut didn’t quite go as planned – he lined up in the wrong half of the pitch due to pre-match warm-ups and lost the ball with his first two touches right after the start of the game.
In poor quality play, he failed to register a single shot on goal.
Ronaldo was named captain and cheered loudly by the fans, receiving a standing ovation as he left the pitch at full-time.
Al Nassr have moved to the top of the Pro League table, one point ahead of rivals Al Hilal.
Ronaldo will be hoping to score his first Al Nassr goal on Thursday when they face Al Ittihad in the Saudi Super Cup semi-finals.
