After departing against Athletic Bilbao, Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo De Paul has been confirmed to have a thigh injury.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo De Paul has been sidelined for an unspecified period with a thigh injury ahead of this weekend’s derby with Real Madrid.

The Argentina international, who started his side’s LaLiga win over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, was forced off the pitch just before the hour mark.

De Paul, a member of the La Albiceleste squad that won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has now been confirmed to have had a thigh problem.

“Rodrigo De Paul is suffering from a thigh injury, according to the medical tests he underwent after he ended up with muscle problems in the game against Athletic Bilbao,” read the official statement.

“The midfielder will begin physical therapy sessions, rehab training and await development.”

Although no time frame has been set for De Paulo’s potential return, Atletico will be hoping he is not sidelined for an extended period as Diego Simeone’s side battle for a top four finish in LaLiga.

However, De Paul seems unlikely to be fit for Saturday’s trip to the Santiago Bernabeu.
