Teenage forward Youssoufa Moukoko will play no part when Borussia Dortmund attempt to knock Chelsea out of the UEFA Champions League.
Youssoufa Moukoko will miss both legs of Borussia Dortmund’s UEFA Champions League tie against Chelsea after he was ruled out for around six weeks with an ankle injury.
The 18-year-old was replaced by Sebastien Haller in the first half of Dortmund’s 2-0 Bundesliga win at Werder Bremen on Saturday.
Moukoko announced on Monday that the syndesmosis has been torn and is expected to be removed by the end of next month.
“This is very difficult news for him and us, especially at this time. We kept our hopes up, but unfortunately it will take some time,” said Dortmund sports director Sebastian Kehl.
He will miss Dortmund’s round of 16 first leg with Chelsea on Wednesday and the return leg at Stamford Bridge on March 7.
The German international clashed with Leipzig in between Bundesliga games.
Dortmund boss Edin Terzic hopes Moukoko will be available for the home game against second-placed Union Berlin a week later, ahead of a meeting with leaders Bayern Munich on March 31.
Terzic’s men are three points behind third-placed Bayern and have won six games in a row since restarting the season.
