Kylian Mbappe had a terrible evening against Montpellier, as he had to be substituted after just 20 minutes of play for Paris Saint-Germain due to an injury. Read here to know how long is he out and whether he will miss the clash against Bayern in the Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain triumphed away to Montpellier on Wednesday despite a poor performance from Kylian Mbappe that included two missed penalties, a missed session and an injury after just 21 minutes. The French forward had an early penalty saved and, after being presented with another chance, followed his shot off the post and missed an open goal.

However, the Montpellier man’s early first-half tackle on the 23-year-old appeared to give his knee some damage. After the challenge, he continued to play for a while, but finally signaled to be called off.

Less than two weeks before Paris Saint-Germain’s first leg against Bayern in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, Mbappe limped off the pitch clutching his hamstring. He had to be taken off and replaced by Hugo Ekitike after just 21 minutes of play.

What is Kylian Mbappe’s injury status with PSG?

Only two weeks remain before the Bavarians travel to the Allianz Arena for the Champions League knockout match, and it’s now uncertain whether the striker will be able to heal in time for the game. On February 14, the current French champions will host the reigning German winners in the first leg of their round-of-16 matchup.

This is a crucial time for Christophe Galtier’s squad, since they will also be playing important games at home. On Saturday, the Parisians will host a Toulouse team that has been on a roll, and then they will face Marseille in the last 16 of the Coupe de France on Wednesday. On February 11, Monaco will be waiting for them in the league standings.

However, amid early concerns that Kylian Mbappe had sustained a serious injury to his hamstring at the Stade de la Mosson, the French boss quickly calmed fans’ nerves in an interview with Canal+ following the triumph: “He [Mbappe] took a knock to the back of the knee or the back of the thigh, so we’ll see. I’m not too worried. It’s a bruise or a contusion, we don’t know yet. With the run of matches, we don’t want to take risks with a very busy fixture list, but it doesn’t appear that serious.”
