On the heels of their gritty El Clasico victory at the Bernabeu in the Copa del Rey midweek, La Liga leaders Barcelona return home to take on Valencia in league play.
The Blaugrana frustrated Real Madrid on the road and crushed their opponents to a standstill in the final third. That will restore belief in the title race after last weekend’s putrid defeat to Almeria allowed doubt to creep in again.
Madrid are seven points adrift and Barcelona will want to keep that gap alive to prevent further questions about their domestic championship.
Valencia, meanwhile, are having a tough season and sit in the relegation zone despite hiring a new coach two weeks ago. Ruben Barajo came in for the departing Gennaro Gattuso and, although he tasted defeat on his debut, won against Real Sociedad last time out, leaving the club just a point from safety.
