Christophe Galtier: Lionel Messi suspension ‘not my decision to take’

Speaking at his press conference this afternoon, Christophe Galtier was notably asked about Lionel Messi’s two-week suspension over an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia at the start of the week.

The manager did not comment on the move, saying the decision was out of his hands in any case:

“At the beginning of the week, I was informed by management of the decision to suspend Leo. I have taken responsibility not to comment.”

On whether Messi will return to the squad at the end of his suspension – with just three games remaining in the campaign at this point – Galtier was equally elusive:

“We’ll see when Leo comes back. Of course, there will be discussions with the whole club, but also with Lee, who is the most important in the situation.”

PSG travel to Troyes on Sunday – their lead could be reduced to just two points by then, depending on Saturday night’s clash between their nearest title rivals Lens and Marseille.

Aube’s outfit, meanwhile, will be looking to salvage some hope of staying up as they sit ten points from safety – and remain winless in five months under Australian manager Patrick Kisnorb. Still, Galtier urged his team to bounce back from last week’s defeat against a team he believes will be looking to get a result in difficult circumstances.
