Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola had nothing but good things to say about Julián Álvarez.
Pep Guardiola has managed some of the best and for many the best players to ever play football. While it’s no secret that Guardiola loves Lionel Messi, his love for Julián Álvarez seems to grow with each match.
Julián Álvarez once stated that before the World Cup several Manchester City players were talking about who could win the tournament. And he mentioned that Guardiola had hinted that Argentina were one of the favourites. Quote from ESPN:
“One of the first days (at Manchester City) Pep, the Portuguese and Rodri were talking about who could win the World Cup, I didn’t say anything. They said Portugal, France, other European nations and Pep says: ‘You know who has the best chances?’ They say nothing and point at me.”
And after Manchester City won 2:1 vs. Fulham, where Álvarez scored the goal of the match, Pep spoke at the press conference and here is what he had to say about Álvarez:
“Julián is also something special. He scored a perfect goal, all actions were brilliant. The vision to have another, to play in that position […] Listen, he plays with the national team, the world champions, and if you’re not good, you can’t play in the world champions team. I thank the club for discovering him at this price for a young player.”
