The forward was dismissed for violent conduct in the closing stages of the defeat at Valencia.
Real Madrid striker Vinicius Junior has said racism is “normal” in LaLiga after he was allegedly subjected to chants during a game in Valencia.
The game was stopped after the break as Vinicius alerted the referee to those who were allegedly abusing him in the stands at the Mestalla.
The 22-year-old was then sent off for violent conduct in added time of Real’s 1-0 defeat after an altercation with striker Hugo Duro.
In a statement on Instagram, Vinicius said: “It wasn’t the first time, it wasn’t the second time, it wasn’t the third time. Racism is normal in LaLiga.
“The competition thinks it’s normal, as do the federations and the opponents support it. I’m so sorry.
“The championship that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano (Ronaldo) and (Lionel) Messi now belongs to racists.
“A beautiful nation that welcomed me and I love, but that accepted the export of an image from a racist country to the world.
“I’m sorry for the Spaniards who disagree, but today Spain is known in Brazil as a country of racists.
“And unfortunately with everything that happens every week, I have no way to fight back. I agree. But I am strong and I will go to the end against racists. Even if it’s a long way from here.”
Valencia released a statement on their club website condemning what happened and confirming they will investigate what happened.
“Valencia CF wishes to publicly condemn any type of insult, attack or disqualification in football,” the statement read.
“In its commitment to the values of respect and sport, the club publicly affirms its stance against physical and verbal violence in stadiums and regrets the events that occurred during the LaLiga 35 match against Real Madrid.
“Although this is an isolated episode, insulting any player from a rival team has no place in football and does not fit with Valencia CF’s values and identity.
“The club is investigating what happened and will take the strongest possible action. Likewise, Valencia CF condemns any offense and also asks for maximum respect for our fans.
“Apart from these isolated incidents, Valencia CF would like to thank the more than 46,000 fans for helping and supporting the team in the game this Sunday, May 21.”
Former England and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand took to Instagram to support Vinicius and question the player’s protection.
“Brother, you need to protect… who is protecting Vinicius Junior in Spain?” Ferdinand posted.
“He gets a red card after being choked and racially abused during the game…wtf.
“How many times do we need to see this young man exposed to this s**t?” I see the pain, I see the disgust, I see that he needs help… and the authorities are not trying to help him.
“People need to stand together and demand more from the authorities that run our game.
“No one deserves this, but you allow it. It needs to be approached uniformly or it will be swept under the carpet AGAIN.”
Diego Lopez scored the only goal of the match for the home team in the 33rd minute.
