In just under a week’s time the world of football will know which two teams have made it through to the UEFA Champions League final.
Internazionale currently hold a two-goal lead over arch-rivals Milan, while Manchester City and Real Madrid played out a 1-1 draw in their semi-final first leg.
The final is set to take place at Istanbul’s Atatürk Stadium on June 10, although it looks like there could be a late change of venue for the third time in recent memory.
The venue was due to host the final in both 2020 and 2021, but both times this had to be revised due to the Covid pandemic.
In 2020, Benfica’s Stadium of Light in Lisbon had the honor of hosting the show, while in 2021 Portuguese rivals Porto saw their Estadio do Dragao get the nod.
According to the Daily Mail, the former may be used once more this year, although Covid has nothing to do with it on this occasion. It appears potential civil unrest in the region could force a rethink.
At this late stage, any transfer decision is unlikely to sit well with supporters of the clubs left in the tournament.
To stay ahead of the curve, it’s never a surprise that fans can consider booking their flights and accommodations early to save money.
However, a late transition would dampen those plans and make the once-in-a-lifetime trip financially unfeasible.
