The Argentina U20 team will play Uzbekistan in their first match at the U20 World Cup and coach Javier Mascherano reportedly has an eleven in mind.
Argentina will be hosting the U20 World Cup which begins on Saturday and they will play Uzbekistan in their first match in a sold out stadium. Coach Mascherano has his 21 players and the preparations are already under way.
Alejandro Garnacho was set to be their biggest star for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup. His talent has given Manchester United an interesting weapon off the bench this season, although he won’t be playing for them this time around.
Why is Alejandro Garnacho not playing for Argentina 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup?
Alejandro Garnacho will not be part of Argentina’s squad to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, Erik ten Hag has confirmed previously.
Ten Hag said: “No we don’t release him (to play at the Under-20 World Cup).
“He will return tomorrow in team training, partially. Then we will have to see when he can return totally in the training, and back into games”.
Garnacho who recently signed a long-term deal at Man United suffered an ankle ligament injury following a tackle from Kyle Walker-Peters during United’s 0-0 draw against Southampton in March.
The 18-year-old was called up to the senior Argentina national team for the first time last month, but he subsequently had to withdraw from the squad due to his injury.
Talks were held between United and Argentina over Garnacho representing his country at the Under-20 World Cup in his homeland, with reports in South America stating manager Javier Mascherano made a personal intervention and the player himself wanted to go.
The tournament begins on May 20 and would have meant Garnacho missing the Premier League season climax and the FA Cup final against Manchester City on June 3.
