Inter Milan have set their sights on European glory again when they face Manchester City in the 2023 UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul, Turkey.
Simone Inzaghi’s side knocked out rivals AC Milan to reach the final, but they are heavy underdogs due to the superior nature of Pep Guardiola’s side. Erling Haaland is the top scorer of the 2022/23 tournament, while Ilkay Gundogan is also in great form.
The likes of Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez will need to perform well if Inter are to lift the trophy on Saturday 10 June.
Inter will be hoping to avoid losing to Italian clubs in the European Cup final as Roma (Europa League) and Fiorentina (Conference League) both lost their finals.
Last time Inter won the Champions League
Inter last won the Champions League in 2010 under the guidance of Jose Mourinho. That team was also the last Italian side to have lifted the trophy.
Diego Milito scored twice in the final against Bayern Munich as the Nerazzurri won 2-0 in Madrid. It was a momentous occasion for more than one reason because the European title meant Inter won the treble of Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League trophies in the 2009/10 season, becoming the first Serie A side in history to achieve that feat.
Inter had a poor start to their Champions League campaign, failing to win any of their first three matches and only snatching a late win in their fourth match away to Dynamo Kyiv. They managed to finish second in the group, behind Barcelona, and advance to the knockout rounds. Mourinho’s side then beat Chelsea Round of 16), CSKA Moscow (quarterfinals), and Barca (semifinals) over two legs to reach the final.
How many times have Inter won the Champions League?
Inter have won the Champions League three times so far in their history.
They were off to a great start as they won the competition twice in their first two attempts, before adding a third in 2010.

The Italian giants beat a Real Madrid side featuring the likes of Ferenc Puskas and Alfredo Di Stefano to win their first Champions League title in 1964. They retained the trophy a year later with a narrow victory over Benfica.
The Nerazzurri also reached the European Cup final in 1967 and 1972, but they lost to Celtic and Ajax respectively.
