Bayern Munich are readying a third bid for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane worth north of €80m.
The Bavarians are continuing their pursuit of the England captain, who they have courted for much of the past 12 months despite Spurs’ insistence that he will not be sold.
Kane is out of contract in 2024 and has so far resisted signing a new contract with Tottenham after their worst Premier League run in 14 years.
Bayern had followed up their original bid for Kane with a second offer of €80m – the same amount they spent on club-record signing Lucas Hernandez in 2019. But Tottenham stood firm and knocked it back.
Bayern were undeterred and are now ready to break their transfer record to bring Kane to the Allianz Arena, with a third bid to be submitted in the coming days.
However, Tottenham are adamant they will not even talk about a deal for Kane and are likely to reject any further advances from Bayern.
New Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou will meet Kane for the first time on Wednesday when he returns to Hotspur Way for pre-season training.
Tottenham hope Kane will buy into Postecoglou’s rebuilding plans and help convince him to extend his stay at the club.
Postecoglou admitted at his opening press conference on Monday that he is not currently interested in talk of Kane leaving the club.
“If I say it bothers me, that would be misleading – it doesn’t register. I always believe you’re much better off trying to understand what the situation is with your own eyes,” Postecoglou said.
“In my head right now, Harry’s on vacation, he’s on a lounger and he’s playing with his family and he’s having a great time. That’s the picture I have.”
“Now if there are other things going on I won’t think about it and the reason I won’t is because he’ll be here in two days [on Wednesday] and everything I need to know will be sitting right in front of me.
“So in the meantime, I’m not going to waste time or sleep with assumptions, because then you’re jumping at shadows – how much of it is true, how much of it isn’t?”
“There’s nothing on my desk at the moment from anyone at the club that says there’s a decision to be made there. Not even close, so that’s why I’m looking forward to Harry being here on Wednesday.”
Postecoglou added: “I don’t think it’s my role to sit and treat people a way because of their circumstances.
“I treat everyone the same. Harry is already an important figure in the history of this football club. He is one of the best players in the world. I want him here and I want this club to be successful. I’m sure he wants that too.
“It’s not going to be a conversation where we come out with some kind of understanding. I just want to introduce myself and I want to know what needs to happen to make this football club successful, then we’ll go there for training.” ground and make it happen.”
