Cesc Fabregas Announces His Retirement after 21 Seasons

Former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fàbregas has announced his retirement.

Fàbregas has won 12 major honors over two decades, including a World Cup, two European Championships and two Premier League titles.

The 36-year-old confirmed on Saturday his decision to hang up his boots and pursue a coaching career at Serie B side Como, where he spent his last season.

“It is with great sadness that the time has come for me to hang up my playing boots,” said Fàbregas.

“From lifting the World Cup, to the Euros to winning England and Spain and almost all the European trophies, it’s been a journey I’ll never forget.

“I also learned three languages ​​and became more compassionate and wiser while traveling. I have had experiences that I never thought in a million years I would even come close to.

“But it’s not just sadness because now I’m going to cross the white line and start coaching the B and Primavera teams of Como 1907. A club and a project I couldn’t be more excited about.”

“This charming football team won my heart from the first minute and came to me at the perfect time in my career. I’ll grab it with both hands.

“So after 20 incredible years of sacrifice, dedication and joy, it’s time to say thank you and say goodbye to the beautiful game.”

Fàbregas began his career as a graduate of Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy before joining Arsenal in 2003.
