Lionel Messi made his first start for Inter Miami CF on Tuesday and, having assumed the role of captain, lived up to the armband as his new team ran out 4-0 winners over fellow MLS side Atlanta United in the group stage of the Leagues Cup.

Lionel Messi couldn’t have asked for a better start to life at Inter Miami. Shortly after scoring a clutch free-kick on his debut, the Argentina star scored a boost in his first start.

Cruz Azul was his first victim in the 2023 League Cup and it didn’t take long for Atlanta United to suffer Leo’s magic as well. The 7-time Ballon d’Or winner, with his goals against MLS opposition, can boast having scored against 100 different teams in his career.

Sevilla were his favorite victims as they received 38 goals from Messi. Needless to say, most of his goals have been against Spanish teams, but now he’s starting to add MLS and Liga MX clubs to the list.
