Striker Danish colleague Christian Eriksen impressed by incoming striker’s development.

Christian Eriksen has been impressed with compatriot Rasmus Hojlund’s development over the past year and believes Manchester United are signing a “very good player”.

Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils have set their sights on signing a new striker after signing midfielder Mason Mount and adventure goalkeeper Andre Onana.

United were regularly linked with Tottenham sharpshooter Harry Kane but eventually moved for promising Atalanta frontman Hojlund.

The clubs have agreed a deal in principle worth £64m plus a further £8m in potential add-ons for the highly-rated 20-year-old striker, who has impressed Denmark team-mate Eriksen.

“What’s he like? He’s a strong number nine,” the United midfielder told PA.

“He’s developed a lot over the last year since I first saw him in the national team (to) year, so yes, he’s a very good player.”

Telling Eriksen that Hojlund was under the radar for many until the recent transfer talks, he said: “I suppose that’s why we don’t get enough media attention in Denmark, so people outside of Denmark don’t know enough.

“He’s a nice lad, he’s a good player. Like I said, he’s developed, he’s only been the number nine he’s played for the national team.

“I have to be honest, I haven’t seen that many games for Atalanta, but I know how they play and he has fitted in well, so yes, he is a good player.

Hojlund played for FC Copenhagen and Austrian side Sturm Graz before joining Atalanta last summer, where he scored nine goals in Serie A and six in as many games for Denmark.

Asked if the striker had discussed with him what United are like, Eriksen said: “Not recently.

“I spoke to him when we were with the national team last time.

“But of course I’ve said a lot of good things – and I’ve said a few bad things too – but it’s going to happen in the end.”
