And the PSG president has suggested that Kylian Mbappé’s stance could mean that they are forced to sell him during the current window.
The France international is under contract at the Parc des Princes until the summer of 2024, but last month widespread reports claimed he had informed the club that he had no intention of activating his option to extend until 2025.
And the PSG president has hinted that Mbappé’s stance could mean they will be forced to sell him during the current window.
“Our position is strong. Mbappé will not leave for free. That is not possible. The best player in the world who leaves for free does not happen,” he said at the unveiling of new coach Luis Enrique.
“Kylian himself also said he wouldn’t leave for free, so if he changed his mind, it’s not my fault.
“But I repeat: he will not leave for free. If he wants to stay, he has to rebuild.”
And in a subsequent interview with Le Parisien, he doubled down on his sentiment by warning the player that the clock was now ticking for him to make up his mind.
“Kylian has to make a decision within a week or two at the most,” he added. “If he doesn’t sign a new contract, the door is open.
“I was completely shocked when I heard he wanted to leave for free. He is a gentleman and a great person, so to weaken the biggest club in his country is not something he likes. I was disappointed.”
Mbappé has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid over the past 18 months.
