Luis Enrique expects for positive solution to Kylian Mbappe impasse

The PSG forward seems set to play out the final year of his contract and leave for free amid links to Real Madrid.

Paris St Germain manager Luis Enrique hopes to find a solution to the club’s ongoing contract dispute with forward Kylian Mbappe.

The France captain’s future faces uncertainty after being linked with a move to Real Madrid, with reports earlier this week that he was frozen out of first-team training.

A decision not to sell Kylian Mbappe this summer could see PSG lose him needlessly next year, but when asked about his future, Enrique stressed that the club is “bigger” than anyone else.

“It is something that has already happened in the past and before I was here there was a positive solution,” the PSG boss told a press conference.

“I hope and wish that, as in the past, the same thing happens again and that the club and the player come to an agreement.

“I would like that.” The philosophy of the club is very clear, the club is bigger than all the players, the coaches, and I fully agree with that.”

Mbappe is not the only player linked with a move away from Paris with reports suggesting Marco Verratti and Neymar may also want to leave.

According to reports in France earlier in the week, Brazilian striker Neymar Jr hinted he wanted to leave the club – but Enrique remained tight-lipped about the players’ futures.

“As for the players you mentioned, Marco Verratti and Neymar Jr, conversations with players are private,” he added.

“I’m not going to talk about what they said, what I said, I don’t think it’s professional, I’d rather keep it internal.

“Of course my words say something, but my actions say more, and the actions I take will show my ideas.”

Paris St Germain have been linked with Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele during the transfer window and Luis Enrique has hinted that a deal for the Barcelona forward is close.

He said: “Ousmane Dembele is not a PSG player today, I don’t know what the exact situation is, but he is not a PSG player yet.

“He’s 99 percent but not 100 percent, of course, he won’t be in the squad tomorrow.”

PSG’s defense of their Ligue 1 title begins on Saturday with a home game against Lorient, who beat them 3-1 in the league in April.

It will be Luis Enrique’s first game in charge of the team since replacing Christophe Galtier at the start of July and he is looking forward to getting started with the club.

Luis Enrique said: “I’m very happy to play this first home game and I hope we win and there’s a good atmosphere so we can all have a good time together.

“I have been given the best possible conditions since I arrived, now I am trying to build the team and I am motivated to do so.”
