Good news for everyone! According to multiple sources in South America, Tottenham Hotspur have signed a new striker! Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Melo, along with other sources, are now reporting that Tottenham have completed the signing of 19-year-old Argentina U20 international and Rosario Central player Alejo Velize! We are waiting for the club’s official announcement, which may come as early as Friday morning.

It went so fast! Tottenham Hotspur have identified a potential young attacking target with a super high upside and then decided to sign him before another team could.

That’s a great feeling! According to Melo, Veliz was signed for $17m (£13.3m) + $6m (£4.7m) in escalators for a potential total of £18m, plus Rosario’s 10% sell-on clause. Contrary to earlier reports of a possible loan back to Rosario, it appears he is set to travel to England to sign a five-year deal.

We’ve already talked about what kind of player Veliz looks like based on what little we can glean from his stats and compilation videos. We know he has received some praise from none other than Lionel Messi, and for the Argentina striker, praise from Messi is like anointing from the Pope.

On the other hand, we also heard from South American football expert Tim Vickery, who warned that Argentine players of his profile have struggled in the Premier League in the past.

That makes Veliz a punt, but not necessarily a bad one, or one the Spurs should avoid. We won’t know that for a while. All that said, Veliz is the type of player Spurs should definitely target, especially at this price point.

Maybe he has no impact, or maybe he turns into a simply capable attacker. Or maybe he will turn into the next Sergio Aguero or Hernan Crespo! And if so, wouldn’t it be great if he could do it as a Tottenham player?
