Inter Milan will open their 2023-24 Italian Serie A campaign on Saturday when they host Monza at the San Siro Stadium.
Raffaele Palladino’s men will be looking to end their league run and run away after crashing out in the Coppa Italia last weekend.
In their first appearance in the UEFA Champions League final in more than a decade, Inter Milan were left scratching their heads with a narrow 1-0 win against English champions Manchester City.
It was a sour end to a successful campaign that saw them finish third in the Serie A table and secure the Coppa Italia title thanks to a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in the final.
Since then, Simone Inzaghi’s side have rallied in pre-season, winning just one of their five friendlies, the exception being a 1-1 draw against Al Nassr on 27 July.
Elsewhere, Monza suffered a first-round exit from the Coppa Italia when they were beaten 2-1 by Serie B side Reggiana last Sunday.
Prior to that, Raffaele Palladino’s men enjoyed an unbeaten pre-season in which they picked up four wins from their first four games before ending their friendly schedule with a 1-1 draw against AC Milan.
With last weekend’s result, Monza have now lost their last three competitive games on the turn, conceding eight goals and scoring three since a 2-1 win over Sassuolo on May 19.
