After his first eight matches with Inter Miami came in knockout competitions, Lionel Messi will now officially begin life in Major League Soccer when his side travel to the New York Red Bulls for a league match on Saturday.
Inter Miami are bottom of the Eastern Conference but look like a reinvigorated side after Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba joined a month ago.
The club suspended MLS play to compete in the League Cup and US Open Cup, winning the former and securing a spot in the finals of the latter. Now that league play resumes, Messi has just 11 games left to pull Inter Miami out of the basement and claim a playoff spot, currently 14 points adrift.
However, Messi and other Inter Miami stars will need rest in the upcoming games, and that could potentially start here.
