According to reports, Al-Ittihad have shrugged off Jurgen Klopp’s warning by formulating a £200m bid for Mohamed Salah.

The Mail claim the Saudi Arabian club are willing to make the Egyptian winger the most expensive footballer in history – and won’t let up until their transfer window closes next Thursday.

Liverpool are determined not to sell Salah, 31, and are said to have rejected a £150m bid from Al-Ittihad early on deadline day.

Klopp told reporters ahead of news of the £200m offer that his position “remains the same”. He said: “There is no doubt about it. No offer as far as I know.”

The Liverpool boss has already made his distaste at the huge spending spree seen by Saudi clubs this summer clear and admitted his fear that their open window will be disruptive to several European sides.

He continued: “I think the next two weeks will show how big a challenge it is, because whatever happens there, obviously no one can react to it.

“That’s something I think UEFA or whoever should keep an eye on.” Because we all have to protect the game and we want [it].

“It’s not illegal, it’s a game and of course I love all my players who are now playing in Saudi Arabia. It’s not like it’s detracting from my viewing habits, but we have to make sure that all these European leagues… stay as strong as they are.”
