Brazil were almost forced to drop points at the start of their World Cup qualifying campaign after a lackluster display against Peru.
However, let that not detract from the hosts’ performance as they prevented some big names from impressing.
Neymar, Rodrygo, Raphinha and Richarlison were relatively quiet alongside Brazil’s midfield stars for more than 90 minutes. Barcelona and Spurs players both had their goals disallowed for offside.
Unfortunately for Peru, nothing could inspire victory at the other end with zero shots on target.
And they were made to pay for it when former Paris Saint-Germain duo Neymar and Marquinhos combined at the death from a corner to break Peruvian hearts.
A star-studded Brazil will still be frustrated by their inability to score more goals despite 63% possession (just three shots on target), but leave with a huge sigh of relief.
Looking at the table, they sit at the top of the table above Argentina, while Peru are seventh.
