Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior has agreed to extend his contract with Real Madrid until the summer of 2027.
Vinicius’ previous contract was set to expire in 2024 and it was reported that the updated deal – said to include a €1bn (£873.5bn) release clause – had been agreed for some time before being made public.
In a video on Real’s social media, Vinicius said: “Hello Madrid fans, I am very happy to renew my contract. It’s a dream for me.
“I hope I can continue here for many years, score many goals and win many titles. Thank you so much for the love. Hall Madrid!”
A short statement on the club’s official website read: “Real Madrid and Vini Jr have agreed to extend the player’s contract, which remains linked to the club until June 30, 2027.”
After starting his career at Flamengo, 23-year-old Vinicius joined Real as an 18-year-old and went on to make 235 first-team appearances, scoring 63 goals.
Vinicius won the LaLiga title twice in 2022 as well as the UEFA Champions League with his goal to secure a 1-0 win over Liverpool in Paris.
At Monday night’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, Vinicius was presented with the Socrates Prize for his work to combat social inequality in Brazil and his ongoing fight against racism.
After the El Clasico defeat, there were reports that some Barcelona supporters directed racist abuse at the Real forward.
Speaking about the ongoing issues while accepting the award, Vinicius said: “It’s boring to talk about racism all the time, but it’s an important thing and I’ll talk about it as often as I have to.
“It’s sad that people are abusing me in different stadiums. I hope things can change, they are better.
“(But) LaLiga, UEFA and FIFA can do more to ensure that these people are not here among us.”
