Lisandro Martinez is one of the most remarkable defenders Argentina has at the moment. His presence in the various squads of the Argentina team is a constant thanks to the high level he has been showing for some time now. This time, however, he won’t be for the next two Conmebol Qualifiers games, and here we’ll tell you why.
When we talk about Argentine central defenders, one cannot fail to mention Lisandro Martinez. He has been consistently one of the best central defenders in his country for some time now, alongside Cuti Romero and Nicolas Otamendi. At his current club Manchester United, he undeniably stands out as one of the main stars.
Although he may not always start, he was part of the team that won the championship for his country at the recent World Cup in Qatar 2022. He has consistently served as a reliable alternative to the aforementioned Romero and Otamendi. With the latter currently 35 years old, many believe that ‘Licha’ could potentially become his successor.
The Argentinian player underwent surgery in mid-April on a fractured fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot, which sidelined him for three months. Manchester United have announced that the player has experienced an “aggravation” of his right leg injury.
As a result, Lisandro Martinez will initially be sidelined indefinitely and the Argentine is expected to be unable to return to action until at least next year, missing his national team’s matches against Paraguay and Peru.
