Defending Copa America champions Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, are likely to be one of the teams to take part in the opener.
Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium has been awarded the 2024 Copa America opener, and South Florida’s Hard Rock Stadium will host the tournament’s final, only the second time it has been held outside the home continent.
The joint announcement was made by the football governing bodies of South America, North and Central America and the Caribbean. Other locations and the schedule for the 16-team tournament have not been released.
The tournament is scheduled to begin June 20 at the 71,000-seat Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United has set numerous attendance records.
