Two of the top three teams in the FIFA rankings will look to bounce back from defeats when they meet this week in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli’s fourth-minute goal steered Brazil to victory in Colombia on Friday until Luis Diaz struck in the 75th minute and added a second four minutes later to give the hosts a surprise 2-1 win.
That same evening, Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay ended Argentina’s perfect group record with a surprise 2-0 win in Buenos Aires to move them two points behind the World Cup holders at the top of the CONMEBOL qualifying group.
Brazil are five points adrift of Argentina after a shaky qualifying campaign so far, having also lost 2-0 in Uruguay in October, shortly after a late Venezuelan equalizer held them to a draw in a 1-1 draw in Cuiaba.
