Lionel Messi presented his Ballon d’Or to Inter Miami’s Academy players as he inspired them to strive for greatness after winning the award for a record eighth time.
The Argentina and Inter Miami striker beat off competition from Manchester City treble winner Erling Haaland and former Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappe to win the award at the 67th awards ceremony in Paris.
Messi was given a hero’s welcome by his Inter Miami teammates upon his return to the United States.
In a video shared on social media, the former Barcelona star spent time with Inter Miami’s youth teams as he presented the players with the award as a source of inspiration for their goals.
The young players chanted and chanted Messi’s name as they arrived with the gong. Messi also took a picture with the budding footballers.
The former PSG forward enjoyed a stellar year in retrospect as he led Argentina to the 2022 World Cup, scoring in the final against France.
He also won the Ligue 1 title before joining Inter Miami in the summer transfer window where he led them to League Cup success, as reported by CNN.
