Lionel Messi has spoken about Argentina’s World Cup qualifying win against Brazil.

Messi was not fully fit for Argentina against Brazil in their 1-0 World Cup qualifier win. Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni replaced him with Ángel Di María, but Messi spoke to the media after the match. Here is what he had to say:

“This group continues to make history. Although today was not the most important, it was very nice. After losing to Uruguay, we needed this win. We knew it would be a tough game, similar to the Copa America final. They pushed a lot, they pushed us high and it was difficult for us to hold the ball for long. These matches are defined by details.”

Before the match, the best player in the world also spoke about the attack by the Brazilian police on Argentina fans:

“We saw them bump into them, just like in the Copa Libertadores. Suppression of the people again.

“He’s more focused on that than playing. We are family. We decided to play to calm the situation.”
