Italy welcome North Macedonia to the Stadio Olimpico on Friday in the group stage of the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers.
The visitors suffered only their second defeat of the qualifying campaign last time out, losing 3-1 away to England. Gianluca Scamacca opened the scoring in the 15th minute, assisted by Giovanni Di Lorenzo.
England mounted a remarkable comeback, with Harry Kane grabbing a brace and Marcus Rashford adding a goal in the 57th minute as England booked their place in the main event. North Macedonia snapped their two-game unbeaten run in the qualifying campaign last month when they lost 2-0 away to Ukraine.
If the hosts win this match against North Macedonia, they will need to draw in their second meeting with Ukraine to qualify for Euro 2024. That’s because the Italians have the tiebreaker thanks to a 2-1 win over Ukraine in Milan in September. .
However, a loss to North Macedonia in that first game would force the Azzurri into a must-win situation and a virtual play-off match against the Ukrainians.
