Mikel Arteta will be pushing hard to end 2023 as they host Brighton in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium on December 17.
With a place in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League now confirmed for February and no Carabao Cup commitments this month, Arteta will be solely focused on strengthening Arsenal’s title challenge.
After resting a number of key players for the 1-1 UEFA Champions League draw at PSV Eindhoven in midweek, Arteta will be looking to recall some new names as Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls head to north London.
Team News
With qualification for the round of 16 already secured, Arteta was free to rotate in Eindhoven and will make further changes and refresh his big guns ahead of this clash.
Center-back pair William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes should start alongside Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli back from virus
De Zerbi’s injury list is unchanged ahead of this game, but Japan international Kaoru Mitoma has shaken off a minor knock to start for the visitors.
Arteta will be hoping the rest given to some players will be at their best against Brighton after Bukayo Saka, David Raya and Oleksandr Zinchenko remained on the Phillips Stadion bench.
Key absences at full-back will mean De Zerbi may need Pascal Gross and Jack Hinshelwood to cover, but the initial return of Mitoma is a big boost. Brighton’s ongoing injury problems will mean teenagers Benicio Baker-Boaitey and Mark O’Mahony could be on a young bench for the visitors.
Brighton lineup (4-3-3):
Verbruggen (GK) — Gross, Dunk, van Hecke, Hinshelwood — Baleba, Dahoud, Lallana — Adringa, Ferguson, Mitoma.
Arsenal lineup (4-3-3):
Raya (GK) — White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko — Odegaard, Rice, Havertz — Saka, Jesus, Martinelli.
