Saturday’s meeting between Bournemouth and Luton Town was abandoned after Hatters defender Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch.

Just before the hour, with the score tied 1-1, Lockyer collapsed away from the other players, prompting an immediate response from medical officials and eventually being carried off the pitch.

The officials decided to stop the game and lead the players through the tunnel and after almost half an hour the match was completely stopped.

A Bournemouth doctor has since confirmed Lockyer, 29, is “fit and ready”, according to Sky Sports News.

Lockyer had previously collapsed on the pitch during last year’s Championship play-off final, after which he underwent heart surgery.

“I had an operation to fix it and it shouldn’t happen again,” he told the BBC. “There’s really no reason to say why it happened.

“I’ve been given the all clear – it is what it is and I want to draw a line at that now and move on.

“I had my whole heart checked and double checked all the scans and tests they can do on the heart and they all came back positive.
