Real Madrid could consider signing Manchester City star Erling Haaland if they fail to land Kylian Mbappé. According to sources, the Spanish side would only have to pay half of their release clause from Manchester City.
Spanish outlet AS have reported via the Daily Mail that the Spanish giants only have to pay half of Haaland’s Man City release clause to sign him.
The La Liga side are currently in pursuit of Kylian Mbappe, who can sign a pre-contract with a club of his choice as he has entered the final six months of his contract at PSG.
However, the French are said to be “unimpressed” by Madrid’s efforts to sign him. Carlo Ancelotti’s side could move for Haaland if they fail to complete the signing of Mbappe.
The prolific Norwegian striker would perfectly fill the vacuum left by Karim Benzema. Since joining the Premier League champions in a £51m move from Borussia Dortmund, he has scored 71 goals in 75 games and provided a further 14 assists.
Real Madrid’s attack is currently led by Josela, who is not at the level they need, or Vinicius or Rodrygo, who are not natural strikers.
Los Blancos have still not replaced Benzema, who left the club to join Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League.
The known value of Haaland’s release clause is around €200m (£172m) and only applies to teams playing in the English Premier League. Teams in other leagues can sign him for about half that amount.
At that price, Haaland would be a bargain for the La Liga giants.
