Morocco will face DR Congo in their second match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stage at the Stade de San Pédro on Sunday.
Morocco, the top-ranked African team in the FIFA rankings (13), started their campaign on a positive note with a comfortable 3-0 win over Tanzania, whose player was sent off in the 70th minute.
Captain Romain Saïss broke the deadlock in the 30th minute, while Azzedine Ounahi and Youssef En-Nesyri added goals three minutes apart in the second half to secure victory for the 1976 AFCON champions.
DR Congo have had a relatively slow start to their campaign, being held to a 1-1 draw by Zambia. Kings Kangwa broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute to give Zambia a deserved lead. Yoane Wiss equalized for Congo four minutes later, assisted by Cédric Bakambu.
A win would secure a place in the knockout round for the Atlas Lions, while DR Congo must avoid a loss in this match to keep their hopes of qualifying for the knockout round alive.
