In the year following Manchester City’s famous treble, Pep Guardiola faces a tough challenge in his bid to defend the club’s FA Cup title when they visit Tottenham in the fourth round.
Last year’s title race saw Man City take on both Chelsea and Arsenal in the opening rounds of the competition before meeting three Championship sides en route to the final against Man United. This season they were again drawn in the preliminary round against a major Premier League club.
Tottenham have bounced out of the FA Cup earlier than expected for several years in a row, having been their kryptonite in recent attempts. Spurs reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 2017 but have since failed to get past the fifth round in five consecutive campaigns.
With Erling Haaland a doubt for Man City despite returning to training, Spurs will still have a tough test against one of Europe’s most formidable foes, now back to their best on a six-game winning streak across all competitions.
