Both Nottingham Forest and Manchester United will be looking to get back to winning ways when they meet in the FA Cup fifth round at the City Ground on Wednesday.
Nottingham Forest were outclassed last Saturday when they lost 4-2 to an out-of-control Aston Villa side. Unai Emery’s men were 3-0 up in the 39th minute of the match, but goals from Moussa Niakhate and Morgan Gibbs-White put the Tricky Trees back in the game.
However, Leon Bailey subsequently sealed all three points for Villa as Forest dropped to 17th in the Premier League table.
They needed a replay to beat League side Blackpool and Championship side Bristol City in the third and fourth rounds of the FA Cup.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men will have their work cut out for them against Manchester United on Wednesday, especially as the Red Devils look to avenge their 2-1 Premier League loss in their final game of 2023.
Manchester United managed to bridge the cracks until last weekend, remaining unbeaten since the turn of the year with some unconvincing wins in all competitions.
However, they were slapped when Fulham stretched, teased and finally tore them apart in second-half stoppage time. Someone needs to figure out what is going on in Manchester United’s medical department as their injury problems continue to mount to the point where it is now a crippling problem.
But Erik the Hag does not deserve any soft forgiveness just yet, as his inability to find solutions to their defensive vulnerabilities has become a major cause for concern among fans. Wednesday’s loss against Forest may stop just short of alarm bells, but it will pile up the pressure on the Dutch coach.
Forest predicted lineup (4-2-3-1):
Sels; Montiel, Niakhate, Murillo, Toffolo; Dominguez, Danilo; Elanga, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Awoniyi.
Man Utd predicted lineup (4-2-3-1):
Onana; Dalot, Evans, Kambwala, Lindelof; Casemiro, Mainoo; Antony, McTominay, Garnacho; Rashford.
