Kylian Mbappé, 25, has informed Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi of his decision to leave the club at the end of the season, according to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins.
Mbappé’s future is undecided, but the protracted saga appears to have an end in sight. The France captain was in exile last summer, banned from PSG’s pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea, and Mbappé was sent to train with the “undesirables”.
Although he was eventually reintegrated into the first-team squad, his future remained unresolved with just months remaining on his current contract. Despite the reported “optimism” surrounding a potential renewal in December, reports surfaced that Mbappé was set for a summer exit, with Le Parisien and Foot Mercato revealing the Frenchman had decided to join Real Madrid.
Mbappé has not yet reached an agreement with Real Madrid
However, according to the agreement between Mbappé and president Al-Khelaifi, which allowed the France captain to reintegrate after last summer’s exile, the former must inform the latter of his decision before any deal is signed and before any decision is made public.
This first step has now been taken. According to Hawkins, Mbappé informed Al-Khelaifi of his decision to leave. This is a prerequisite for signing for another club on a free transfer at the end of the season. While Real Madrid are strong favorites to secure the French captain’s signature, nothing has yet been signed.
